About the BLDE Association
Although there are three rivers flowing in the Bijapur District, it remained as socio – economic and educationally backward district. It had a silver lining and a ray of hope when the great eminent personalities of this region established Bijapur Liberal District Education Association in 1910 with a visionary zeal and positive attitude to impart education. It is our proud privilege and fortunate enough to give a brief history of our Association.
The BLDE Association, Vijayapur in Karnataka State, is an esteemed and prominent educational association fostered by distinguished men of letters Vachana Pitamaha Dr. P.G.Halakatti, His Holiness Shri Sanganabasava Shivayogi of Banthanal and their disciples with the visionary aim of providing education particularly for the rural youth in this socio-economically backward region. Further, its patron, Late Shri B.M.Patil, the then minister in the Govt. of Karnataka nurtured and elevated it to its present academic, qualitative and quantitative heights
Within a span of a century, the Association has witnessed an amazing and spectacular growth in all its spheres of academic pursuits by the devotion and dedication of charismatic leader Dr. M.B. Patil. B.E MLA., the president and chairman of BLDE Association and the renowned academician Shri. G.K.Patil MLC, the General Secretary and Treasurer of BLDE Association. The association has incorporated various disciplines such as Medical, Engineering, Law, Management, Arts, Science, commerce.
The BLDE Association has 80 educational institutions under its fold ably managed by around 6000 teaching & non teaching staff. It caters to more than 30,000 students (Medical, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Management, Education, Arts, Science, Commerce, Polytechnic, High school & others). Through these institutions, it offers UG, PG, PG Diploma and Add-on programmes. Due to its vast expansion, emerged as the BLDE University in 2008 Comprises Medical, Nursing and Pharmacy Colleges. Now BLDE Association is on its threshold, to celebrate the centenary in a couple of days.
On the eve of Golden Jubilee Celebration, New Arts College, Tikota came into existence from 16th June 1969 to provide education to rural public in general and rural backward students in particular. The college was started in Tikota for serving the downtrodden, disadvantaged, rural agricultural society of Tikota and its surrounding villages, just 20 kms away from the historical city, Vijayapur.
About the College
The New Arts College, Tikota is one of the renowned and eminent institutions of BLDE Association among the rural institutions. Prof. S.S.Kabbin was the first principal of the college. The college had the good fortune of having devoted educationalists as the principals. It includes dignified and illustrious personalities namely, Shri R.V.Gatti, Shri S.S.Kanamdi, Shri P.B.Puranikmath, Shri N.R.Biradar, Shri V.M. Surpur, Shri Y.B.Pattanashetti, Shri B.Y.Patil, Shri M.S.Bhadrashetty, Shri B.M.Jumnal, Shri B.B.Patil, Shri S.G.Gani.
At present, Dr. M.B.Bhiradi , an eminent personality is serving as the principal of the college. Our institution has had the privilege and fortunate of having Dr.M.B.Bhiradi as the Principal, who has the scholar and knowledge of the world. He knows very well, men and matters and brings his experience for the administration of the college. His talents as an author, sincerity and knowledgeable personality are an invaluable asset to our institution.
The distinguished National and International Leaders like Shri Nani Palakiwala, the famous lawyer, Dr. Ha.Ma.Nayak, the great writer, Dr. A.S.Adake, the Vice-chancellor of Karnataka University, Dharwad, Shri H. Narashimaiah, the great Educationist, Padmashree Dr. R.B.Patil., Shri Yadiyurappa, the Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka, His Holiness Shri Siddeshwar Swamiji, Dr. S.K.Saidapur, the vice chancellor of Karnataka University, Dharwad, Dr.Geeta Bali, the vice chancellor of Karnataka State Women University, Vijayapur, Shri Sunil Dutt, famous Film Actor, Shri Raj Babbar, famous film actor, Shri Shatrugna Sinha, MP and Film Actor and many other distinguished persons visited our college and appreciated the yeoman service rendered by the institution to this socio – economic backward area of the North Karnataka.
During a span of few years, the college has flowered into a dedicated educational institution fulfilling the dreams, desires, and aspirations of the people for the socio-economic and educationally backward rural area. The New Arts and Commerce College, Tikota is a private government aided rural institution permanently affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi It is recognized under 2(f) and 12B of UGC in 1988.
The magnificent building of our college stands on a spacious campus of ten acres of land with 3944.72 sq.mts. built up area. It has well equipped laboratories, classrooms, well stocked computerized library. Also there are internet facility, computer facility, modern teaching aids, hostel facility for girls, sports facility, NSS wing and vast playground. The number of various grown up trees inside the campus and gardening provided for green/sylvan atmosphere in the campus. And all the required civic amenities have extended the strength of the institution for imparting value based, skilled based, employable and effective education. There is B.A & B.Com UG programmes (course) with a large pool of options available for the students and providing UGC sponsored COPs and self financed add-on courses. Also Distance Education Study Centre, Karnatka State Open University, Mysore offers BA/B.Com, M.A/M.Com etc at our college to the deprived youths.
There are Eleven Arts & Commerce UG Departments managed by 20 qualified faculty and 11 supporting non teaching staff. 380 students are admitted to the course, of which 52(16%) SC/ST students. The disadvantaged rural students, who are coming from nearby villages are about 99%. A point to be noted here that 81% of boys and 73 % of girls are first generation students which focuses the seriousness of the backwardness of the area and the institution’s concern for the disadvantaged students. The college has recorded very good success rate more than University Exams and their progress towards PG & professional education.
The institution has a list of illustrious alumni. The institution has contributed a number of outstanding teachers, administrators, sports persons etc. The highly qualified, competent and experienced staff, adequate infrastructural facilities, support services, learning resources and effective leadership are the hallmarks of this temple of learning.
The college has also developed good neighbourhood relations with villages through extension activities of NSS, extension forums, Scout and Guides.
